Brad Helton Reclaims The Quickest 1/8-Mile 6R140 Record

The world’s quickest 6R140 transmission record is an accolade Brad Helton held briefly in 2024, but now he owns the world’s quickest 6R140 TorqShift/6.7L Power Stroke combo again. It happened over the weekend at Bowling Green, Kentucky’s Beech Bend Raceway Park (and at the ODSS Bluegrass Truck Jam event), when his 5.70 Index Super Duty clicked off a 5.69 at 127 mph. That ET tops the previous record-holder’s (JDB Diesel Performance) 5.74 at 123 mph. To get there, Brad relied on a host of Snyder Performance Engineering parts, which include (but aren’t limited to) an SPE 6.7L Power Stroke engine, transmission, chassis, turbo, and intercooler—as well as help from Diesel Performance Converters, Exergy Performance, Hot Shot’s Secret, Hoosier Racing Tire, and Nitrous Express.

Viper vs Mustang: Who wins?

The Viper, a car many have always dreamed of. A V10 beast of an engine slapped into a super light chassis. If you've ever driven one, you know, these cars are not for the timid. Even with their massive 14-inch wide rear tires, it can be a chore to keep the power to the ground. Nowadays, the same can be said for many newer Mustangs. So how would the two fair in a fight? While it's not a stock vs stock comparison, the YouTube channel CarWow just pitted a supercharged 859-horsepower S550 Mustang against a 710-horsepower Viper. The Mustang, of course, wins in the horsepower department; however, it's much heavier. The two faced multiple drag races, both standing and rolling. In the end, well, it's really up to you to decide who won. Both took some punches and both won a few races. Either way, it's a great video to watch on two iconic pieces of American Muscle.

A Frame-Off, 600hp LB7 Build

When the O.G. Duramax was your first love in diesel, it’s not about the money spent in restoring it; it’s about reliving that initial diesel addiction over and over again. After dropping his cat-eye LB7 off as a rolling shell at DuramaxTuner.com’s Woodstock, Illinois facility, Richie Thomas entrusted the folks there to restore it to better-than-new condition. The regular cab Silverado’s rebirth began with a fully powder coated frame from Wehrli Custom Fabrication, a rust-free California bed (and paint-matched fender flares), brand-new suspension (complete with Kryptonite tie-rods and an idler arm brace) and a host of power adders. A 64mm Stealth turbo, DuramaxTuner ECM and TCM tuning, Exergy Sportsman injectors and a Sportsman (LBZ-based) CP3, high-flow up-pipes and downpipe, ARP head studs, and a DT550 Allison 1000 all made the cut.

DHD’s Fix For 10L1000 Allison F Clutch Drum Failure

The 10L1000 Allison in 2020-newer GM HD trucks is notorious for F clutch drum failure, where the steels dig into the channels that hold them in place. It’s an issue that typically culminates in range tie-ups or incomplete shifts. Rather than simply replacing the drum with an OEM replacement (made from lightweight aluminum, no less), Dirty Hooker Diesel just whipped up a hard-anodized version that’s proven to have a higher resistance to wear and that provides a slight increase in the drum’s ability to handle high loads. Third party Rockwell testing revealed up to a 4-point increase in material hardness on the DHD drum’s surface. Keep pushing that Allison platform DHD!

Old Trucks Need Love, Too!

Just like it reads. After all, there are thousands of VE-fueled first-gen 5.9L’s still going to work every day in the U.S., and Ratman Performance has made sure this one completes each job a little quicker. With a goal of getting up to speed in a timelier manner, Ratman treated the old 6BT Cummins to a set of delivery valves, a 3,200-rpm governor spring, and an upgraded fuel pin. Per the truck’s Dragy times, and factoring in its curb weight (with driver), horsepower all but doubled after the mods, landing the flat-bed first-gen in the 300-rwhp range. Eighth-mile ET dropped from 12.39 seconds to 10.19 seconds.

Randy’s Transmissions Dissects Ram’s New ZF 8-Speed

Well, someone finally did it. Instead of merely acquiring and test driving a Cummins-powered ’25 Ram 2500/3500, the new ZF 8-speed automatic was dropped, ripped open, and exposed. So, what’s the verdict? According to the folks at Randy’s Transmissions this unit will be plenty stout in factory form—even behind the 6.7L’s 1,075 lb-ft of grunt. Apparently, the new automatic comes standard with a steel front cover, triple-disc torque converter, thick steel drums, and anti-drag wave rings (to keep the clutches from dragging when they’re released). Further positive signs were found with the valvebody, P1 and P2 planetaries, and input shaft—all of which have proven rock-solid in other ZF transmissions already on the market.
