GM just answered the HD diesel horsepower war with a clean-sheet 8.3L Duramax. The internet says Ford's answer is an 8.0L Power Stroke. After digging through Ford's own production announcements, hiring activity and forward-model emissions work, Dan (Snyder) thinks the evidence points toward something different - and possibly more interesting.

Ford CEO Jim Farley has made one thing pretty clear: the manual Mustang isn’t going anywhere without a fight. However, when asked recently about the future of the V8 Mustang, his answer was a little more interesting. When asked if V8's would stick around, Farley said Ford would basically have to pry the manual transmission from his cold, dead hands. Great news for three-pedal fans. Maybe slightly less comforting for V8 fans. Ford hasn’t announced plans to kill the Coyote, and it doesn't look like they've made any production plans that suggest it's going away either. That little sidestep is definitely getting people talking, but we don't think it meant as much as the mainstream media is making it out to be.

Rivaling the hype, scope, and size of Ultimate Callout Challenge, the NHRDA World Finals commenced over the weekend—and with it came the $100,000-to-win Seventy 2 Fast race. With over 40 heavy hitters making the call to Ennis, Texas, few could’ve predicted the winner of the $70,000 pot back in June would repeat. But that’s exactly what happened. Once again, Matthew Parker and his common-rail second-gen proved deadly on the tree, ultra-quick to the 60-foot, and first to cross the stripe. Not a bad after life for a retired second-gen—a truck that was initially purchased for $800 before being transformed into a menacing, 5-second 1/8-mile performer…

Beyond the spectacle of the $100,000 Seventy 2 Fast race, there was a race to crown 2026 NHRDA champions going on, new records being set, and even another Blue Collar No Prep race. Michael Cordova was in town and set a new NHRDA Top Diesel record for both ET and trap speed, Truck Source Diesel’s Phillip Franklin set a new 48RE record in route to sewing up the Pro Street title, and TSD’s Chris Buhidar finished off the year with the NHRDA Pro Mod championship. Other winners included Brett Marcum in Super Diesel/5.90, Jeremy Stickney in 6.70 Index, and Lane Wright in victory lane for both 7.70 Index and Sportsman ET.

It didn’t take Blake DeBroux long to learn the ropes of the Super Stock Diesel 4x4 truck class. In fact, you’re looking at the 2026 NTPA champion. This year, consistency was key in Blake’s success. On a dozen occasions, he put the Cummins-powered “Flam-A-Bull” Chevrolet in the top five—with one Fifth Place, three third places, six runner-up performances, and two wins. Son of Ryan DeBroux (owner and driver of the 20,000-pound Playin’ With Fire semi), Blake has already figured out how to read a track and navigate 4,000 hp through the dirt with front-of-the-pack repeatability. The future is definitely looking bright for this youngster.

You’ve likely seen one or two of the highly public versions of Dodge’s O.G. Cummins-powered trucks. But have you seen the other prototypes? First-gen guru, Robert Schwarzli, recently spent time with seven OG’s at Cummins’ Columbus Mid-Range Engine Plant (CMEP). Beyond the D350 everyone seems to know (the truck known internally as prototype D001), Schwarzli provides in-depth backstories on six other early 5.9L-equipped pickups, including D002 (a 4x4, five-speed Getrag model built strictly for abuse) and two different D023 prototypes. Prior to their release in the summer of 1988 (as ’89 models), one test mule even accumulated 300,000 trouble free miles. Check it out. It’s definitely worth your time.
